Key West, FL (February 4, 2012) — The American Red Cross recognized Bryan Green and Tony Konrath as the Florence Spottswood Humanitarians of the Year on February 4. The award was presented at a gala dinner dance at the Key West Marriott Beachside Resort, attended by a full house of about 240 people.
Both partners were born in Britain and during their remarks at the event, Konrath said “I’m so proud to be an American.” Their giving spirit has extended from working with the royal family on urban regeneration, to projects across the pond that include such varied organizations as Womankind, Wesley House Family Services and Miss Kitty’s Pantry. Both are involved as board members in theatre, fundraising and direct support within Key West organizations. In addition, Konrath is a trained goldsmith and creates jewelry for local fundraising events, including this week’s Gala.

“We are so thankful to Bryan and Tony for making such a positive impact on so many people in the Keys community. They embody the Red Cross principles and everything that we stand for,” said J B Hunt, Regional Advancement Officer. “Donations from this event stay in the community to pay for a variety of services that the Red Cross offers-- from the shelter offered to families who lose everything in a fire, to the programs that teach lifesaving CPR skills.”
The Florence Spottswood Humanitarian of the Year Award is established in honor of Florence Spottswood, founder of the American Red Cross Key West Chapter in 1917. The award recognizes outstanding leaders who best exemplify the principles of the American Red Cross: Humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, universality and unity. |
